It's time for Mckay's surgery. We are taking him up to Primary Children's Hospital on Thursday for an appointment with an Opthamologist. They want to check his eyes to make sure he doesn't have this syndrome called BOR syndrome that effects the eyes, ears, and kidneys. Then on Friday they will do surgery to remove the extra cartilage he has on his ear. We call them ear tags. The smart doctor calls them Accessory Tragus. That's the plan for now and then as long as his speech develpment and everything else is ok they will just wait until he's about 5 to do a CAT scan to see if he has all of the inner ear components. If so at that point they can go ahead and do surgery to give him an ear canal. That's a ways off though.
Feeling:
-grateful that this isn't a major surgery. The poor families that have little ones that need major surgeries.
-even though it isn't a major surgery, I still feel anxious that my baby will be in the hands of strangers for about 45 minutes.
-thankful that those strangers are good at what they do and that he will be in good hands
-glad that he won't remember being in the hands of strangers or the whole experience all together
-nervous about the night before and not being able to feed him during the night because of the anesthesia. This little guy loves his middle of the night snacks!
I'm sure everything will go just fine. It will just be nice to have it over with.
This is the last time his ear will look like this!
